ALTAIR is a Custom 38’ Downeast style Cruiser built in 1988 to the highest standards by Jim Foley of Foley Boatbuilding. Her first owner was George H.W. Bush's cousin who contracted Foley, Glenn Holland and Wesmac to design and build this vessel. Her present owner purchased her in 1999. He had the flybridge installed by Patten’s Boatyard in Eliot, Maine, having purchased the flybridge from Northern Bay. The present owner has made numerous upgrades in his 22 years of ownership, and he reports that she has performed mechanically and electrically flawlessly. ALTAIR is a beautifully appointed boat and a stand-out in her condition, design and build quality.   • 1994 Dark green Awlgripped hull, white boottop, red bottom; 2010 all beige decks, superstructure and surfaces were Awlgripped.
  • Every year hull is cleaned and polished with Awlcare.
  • 2019 Awlcare was used on all beige surfaces.
  • 1 ¼” thick hull of fiberglass sandwich construction using ½” Klegecell foam core. Solid fiberglass used in all thru-hull penetrations.
  • There are four Airex-foam cored fiberglass longitudinal stringers for added stiffness.
  • Hull design includes spoon-shaped bow, full round bilges, deep box-type keel.
  • Raised bulwarks surround vessel with capped teak toerails. Some exterior trim is teak with a Cetol finish. Exterior trim is teak left natural or with a Cetol finish.
  • Decks and superstructure are fiberglass and balsa-cored construction, Awlgripped beige.
  • 2010 salon aluminum framed windows and all deck hardware were powder-coated.

ACCOMODATIONS:

Starting forward there is a divided chain locker. Next aft is the owner’s stateroom finished in varnished Honduras mahogany trim joinerwork with varnished clear pine overheads. There is a large queen-sized vee berth with custom inner spring mattresses, and numerous drawers and a large storage area underneath. There are shelves to port and starboard of the berth with mounted crystal lamps and room for incidentals. A cedar lined hanging locker and small settee are aft to starboard.

 

Next aft to port is the large U-shaped galley which includes built-in upright Nova Cool refrigerator with bottom freezer, S/S four burner propane stove with electric solenoid fuel shut-off switch. Also, a microwave oven, toaster oven. There is a S/S sink with hot and cold pressure water, butcher block countertops, numerous drawers and lockers, and built-in racks for dishes, glassware and spices. Under sink micro-filter with countertop spigot.

Opposite to starboard with access by a sliding mahogany door, is the spacious head with enclosed stall shower, Air Head composting head, large mirror, porcelain sink, mounted crystal lamp, and hot and cold pressure water. The galley and head soles are clear varnished fir.

Continuing aft is the main salon with cabinetry of high grade Honduras mahogany with raised panel doors and brass hardware, finished in satin varnish. To port is a three seat sleeper-sofa upholstered in dark green, covered with a beige tweed slipcover, two brass reading lamps with LED bulbs above, a high/low varnished mahogany drop-leaf dinging table and a built-in mahogany corner cabinet. To starboard is the helm with electronics, additional instrumentation above and sliding door adjacent to the wheel. There is a large fore and aft cabinet which includes the entertainment center and extra storage compartments with two mounted white porcelain America’s Cup lamps. The aft bulkhead includes hinged teak doors to the cockpit. The salon sole is clear varnished fir and includes hinged and lift-out hatches to access the engine room. All soles have been revarnished and most interior painted bulkheads have been repainted.
