ACADIA is one of 13 or 14 Alden Caravelle 42' yawls
built in Hundested Denmark by the renowned Poul E. Molich yard. These
hulls were constructed by Halmatic Ltd in England and shipped to
Denmark to be finished as the Danish craftsmanship and quality of the
teak, mahogany and finishwork was unsurpassed at that time. Due to the
heavy solid fiberglass hull and decks, these classics are now highly
sought after by "collectors" of fine yachts. They hold their
value much the same way the Hinckley yachts do; however, it is
well-known that the Alden Caravelles have a better sailing performance
due to their long keel versus the keel-centerboard found on the
Hinckley Bermuda 40's. Many Caravelles raced successfully under the
CCA rule in Marblehead to Halifax and Newport to Bermuda races.
ACADIA shows extremely well as she has benefited from
an extensive refit in 2003 and 2004. This included a new engine,
extensive rewiring, Awlgrip paint of hull and deck, new Dynel
housetop, Awlgrip paint on her spars, new Ulmer sails and Harken
roller furling, new cushions covers, new stove, autopilot and
Radar-GPS-Plotter, new running rigging, and much more. She is
presently on the hard in Boothbay as her owners are living in
Switzerland now. She is a "work of art" and a pleasure to
show for those looking to own "One of the Prettiest Vessels"
in the harbor.
